ABSTRACT

Pleomorphic adenoma occurs commonly in the major salivary glands but is uncommonly encountered in the breast. In both of these locations, the tumor is typically grossly circumscribed and has a ―mixed‖ histological appearance, being composed of myoepithelial and epithelial components amid a myxochondroid matrix. Pleomorphic adenoma of the breast is a rare, benign tumor accounting for 68 cases in the literature. It is most commonly seen in postmenopausal women. Here, we have reported a case of mammary pleomorphic adenoma in an asymptomatic 45-year-old woman which was preoperatively thought to represent a carcinoma on clinical and radiological grounds. It is the rarity of the tumor in the breast, rather than its histological appearance, that causes diagnostic difficulty.

ABSTRACT

Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare, highly malignant thyroid tumor with dismal prognosis. Its usual presentation is in elderly patients as a very rapidly growing mass. ATC mainly shows three patterns: spindle cells, giant cell and squamoid but these three subtypes frequently coexist. Osteoclastic giant cell variant of ATC is extremely rare and is characterized by the presence of a large number of multinucleated giant cells resembling osteoclasts. We are reporting here this unusual variant in a 67-year-old male with a history of progressively increasing midline neck swelling and pulmonary metastasis and left jugular vein thrombosis. Cytologically, many multinucleated osteoclast-like giant cells were seen accompanying the malignant spindle cell component.

ABSTRACT

Patient with Down's syndrome (DS) are found to have an increased risk of developing various hematological disorders. There is 46 to 83 fold increased risk of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and 10 to 27 fold increased risk of acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL). One of the most characteristics feature of Down syndrome associated AML (DS-AML) is that vast majority of case (70%) of AML in DS are megakaryoblastic leukemia i.e. M7 as per FAB classification (DS- AMKL). Virtually, all cases of DS-AMKL occur within the first 5 years of life. The median age of presentation of AMKL is 1.8 years. We report a case of AMKL in a newborn with Down's syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Malignant melanoma arises from either melanocytes or their precursor cells, melanoblasts. As melanocytes are found in normal leptomeningeal tissue, it is not surprising that primary melanomas can grow within the central nervous system. Primary intracranial melanoma is uncommon and accounts for only approximately 1% of all cases of melanoma. It is difficult to diagnose a primary CNS melanoma upfront. Here, we are presenting a rare case of primary malignant melanoma in left frontoparietal area in 65 years old male patient. This case provides us with a good learning opportunity, which is to increase recognition and awareness of rare entity of primary malignant melanoma.

ABSTRACT

Malignant melanoma is a highly malignant tumor that is derived from melanocytes. The incidence of malignant melanoma has risen markedly over the last decade. Malignant melanoma mostly occurs in the skin, mucous membranes and the choroid. The cases of primary melanoma of the breast are quite rare. Observation of the clinical pathological features, immunohistochemical staining methods and tissue origin are required to identify primary malignant melanoma of the breast. This case report of primary malignant melanoma is presented because of its rarity.
